Remarks by Gerald D. Holder, U.S. Steel Dean of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh's Swanson School of Engineering:
In December of 1994, key individuals from several of our engineering departments here at the University of Pittsburgh met with a team of engineers and vice presidents from MEDRAD. It took a bit of time, as quality programs always do, and in the fall of 1997 MEDRAD became actively involved with our co-op program. Since then, a total of thirty-five co-op students have been hired by MEDRAD, and many of those individuals are still with you as full-time employees.
Not only has MEDRAD hired a number of students successfully, from departments that range from bioengineering to industrial, mechanical, computer engineering and computer science, you have consistently engaged those students with challenging, meaningful and technical assignments. In fact, as you well know, students who co-op with MEDRAD formally present to the engineers and management team a result of their term’s activities. Very few employers require this, but we see it as one more sign of a strong and caring co-op program.
Because of MEDRAD’s outstanding and sustained commitment to cooperative education at the University of Pittsburgh, you have been selected as the Co-op Employer of the Year for 2007.
Accepting the award on behalf of MEDRAD is Sue Wingert, Director of College Recruiting, who was instrumental in establishing MEDRAD’s co-op program in 1997.
