How does P3T calculate the appropriate dose for each patient?

P3T products utilize MEDRAD’s Personalized Patient Protocol Technology (P3T®) to compute custom injection protocols enabling personalized care and patient safety while maintaining efficient workflow. P3T was developed in conjunction with clinical experts with significant expertise and knowledge regarding individualized contrast protocols.

P3T Cardiac computes custom injection protocols as well as scan timing for each patient using four primary components:

• Patient and procedure data gathered by healthcare personnel
• P3T algorithm for protocol generation
• DualFlow technology (the simultaneous injection of contrast and saline).
• An optional transit bolus that refines the protocol based on cardiac output (P3T Cardiac also works with bolus detection software)

P3T Abdomen adjusts contrast volume based on systematic scientific methods, according to patient, procedure, and prescribed physician parameters.  The primary components for creating P3T Abdomen protocols are:

• Patient and procedure data gathered by healthcare personnel
• P3T algorithm for protocol generation
• Customizable options for abdominal region contrast dosing

• Weight factor method – calculates contrast volume taking into account the patient’s weight and the contrast concentration.  It is expressed in grams of iodine per kilogram of patient weight (gI/kg)
• Volume factor method – this method does not account for the concentration of contrast used.  It enables the technologist to specify a dosing factor expressed in milliliters of contrast per kilogram of patient weight (ml/kg).
• Iodine load factor – enables a physician to give each patient a designated amount of iodine, regardless of their weight.  In these cases, contrast volume is calculated based upon contrast concentration.

Why P3T is different than current methods for cardiac, abdominal, and pulmonary angiographic imaging?

People are not the same, and neither is the way their body absorbs contrast.  Research shows that as weight increases, enhancement decreases.  Therefore, to get clear and consistent images, it is critical to take a patient’s weight into account.  Manually calculating iodine doses and contrast volumes is complex, and requires technologists to use lookup tables and/or make manual calculations.

P3T automates this process.  It adjusts injection parameters based on systematic scientific methods, according to patient, procedure and prescribed physician parameters ─ helping to maintain patient safety, keeping image quality consistent, and delivering the right amount of contrast.
