Over 800 Employees Leave Work  Behind to Better Pittsburgh Communities through 49 Different Outreach Projects

MEDRAD employees participate in the 10th Annual Day of Caring

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WARRENDALE, Pa., September 11, 2009 – For MEDRAD employees, today will be far from a typical day at work. The company will suspend operations and over 800 employees will be paid to spend the day away from their desks or positions on the production line. They’ll trade their cell phones, laptops and two-way radios for paint brushes, hammers and hedge clippers as they volunteer at 49 Pittsburgh non-profit organizations and community projects during MEDRAD’s 10th Annual Day of Caring.

For ten years now, MEDRAD employees have had the unique opportunity to give back to their communities through this company-sponsored event. This year, MEDRAD’s Day of Caring is likely to have more impact than ever. Numerous local charities are struggling with increased demands and decreased resources due to the impact of the economic crisis.

“Every year, we look forward to the chance to give back to our communities on the Day of Caring. This year, in particular, we hope that our efforts make a genuine difference for these organizations, some of which are really struggling to meet the needs of the clients they serve,” said MEDRAD President and CEO John Friel.

Local nonprofit organizations and community groups including Easter Seals, Westmoreland ARC, Volunteers of America and the Stepping Stones Children’s Center will benefit from the 4,500 plus man hours MEDRAD is able to offer this year. Employees will spend the day tackling projects that range from landscaping,  remodeling and painting community facilities, to hosting parties and running carnival games for the disabled and elderly.

For many of the organizations MEDRAD services, volunteer contributions from the Day of Caring have a positive impact that lasts well beyond the close of the day’s activities.

“MEDRAD employees have been invaluable volunteers of America’s Working Order and All of Us Care programs,” says Pat Serey, chief development and marketing officer and vice president of Volunteers of America Southwestern Pennsylvania. “Their Day of Caring work over the years has provided us with resources that enable us to better serve disadvantaged people in our community.”

The impact of MEDRAD’s employees now extends beyond just the Pittsburgh region. Nearly 200 employees at MEDRAD Interventional™/Possis®, based in Minneapolis, will also be volunteering on September 11 for community projects in their region. Employees from MEDRAD’s international offices in Japan, the Netherlands and Germany are volunteering in their respective cities.
