The Stellant® XDS® Extravasation Detector directly senses contrast or saline pooling under a patient's skin during a CT procedure using reliable RF Wave technology. Here is how it works.

- Before the injection begins, XDS establishes the patient’s baseline measurement.
- During injection, XDS sends an RF signal through the injection site tissue to detect an extravasation.
- If there is no fluid pooling the signal passes freely through the tissue. If fluid is present, the signal changes and XDS immediately stops the injection.
This technology enables quick and highly accurate detection of extravasated fluid at less than 20mL, but typically between 5mL and 11mL.
Winner of the 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award, XDS immediately stops the injection when pooling fluid is detected under the patient’s skin. Unlike similar products, XDS is the only extravasation detector built on RF Wave Technology, which has been shown to minimize false positives that are common with the use of technology that relies on skin impedance.
